It’s not a secret that we live in a world of constant activity, over scheduling, and stress. We try to fit in as much as we can in our day to day lives. Often this leaves us feeling exhausted, depleted, and just plain tired. What is the solution?
One solution is cultivating a practice of restorative yoga. Restorative yoga has become one of my favorite practices because it allows me time to slow down, to pause, and to rest. Unlike some other kinds of yoga, restorative yoga allows for an opportunity to relax the body in a deep and purposeful way. Through the practice we can initiate the relaxation response and turn on the parasympathetic nervous system. Poses rely on props and blankets to hold and support the body and are held for 5-20 minutes. Practicing restorative yoga can relieve chronic stress and can help us sleep and rest better. It is a quiet, nourishing practice that can be deeply meditative.
